In 1859, Charles Darwin challenged conventional wisdom with his landmark and controversial book ON THE
ORIGIN OF SPECIES. And then 45 years later, in 1904, Thomas Troward again challenged popular thinking
through a series of lectures at Queen Street Hall, Edinburgh; lectures which would have a profound effect on the
way we view the interaction between our thinking and what happens in our lives.
In this series of 6 classes we’ll look at Troward’s rationale for distinguishing between Spirit and matter, achieve a
greater understanding of the unity of Spirit, and look at the two functions of mind and the law of growth. In the
words of Thomas Troward, “We are accustomed to judge only by external appearances and by certain limited
significances which we attach to words; but when we begin to inquire into the real meaning of our words and to
analyse the causes which give rise to the appearances, we find our old notions gradually falling off from us until
at last we wake up to the fact that we are living in an entirely different world to that which we formerly
recognised.”

Some people say they find it easier to forgive others compared to forgiving themselves. But forgiveness, like all
else in life, starts with us – forgiving ourselves first.
Forgiveness is a journey and it often takes time, so we need to learn to be gentle with ourselves. It releases and
empowers us and, regardless of whether we're working on for forgiving ourselves or another, the result is
freedom and peace of mind.
Forgiveness does not mean that we support ‘wrong behaviour’; it means that we’re releasing any power a
person or situation might have over us. In its absolute sense, forgiveness is taking responsibility for that which
comes into our space. It’s the consciousness that sets us free from past hurts, resentments or victimhood
feelings. It allows us to be free to live fully in the here and now.
HO’OPONOPONO is an ancient Hawaiian system of forgiveness which declares that behind every event,
situation or encounter we can ever experience in life, there’s a memory or limiting belief. The goal of
Ho’oponopono is to clear out these unwanted beliefs and memories, to free ourselves of everything that could
possibly be a hinderance or a source of pain or suffering.
The practice of ho’oponopono carries us into a zero state of emptiness in which our mind, or ego self, has
entirely surrendered control to our higher self -- our authentic self. This makes it possible for us to be receptive
to that inner knowingness which we call guidance and inspiration.
In class, we practice and fine-tune the four life-changing steps of Ho'oponopono.

Known as a philosophical and literary movement, transcendentalism first developed in the Eastern U.S. with
well-known writers and philosophers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Margaret Fuller and
Amos Bronson Alcott. Its core beliefs were based on individualism, self-reliance, the inherent goodness of
people and nature, and that everything is a reflection of God.
As a group, the transcendentalists, took progressive stands on women's rights, abolition, reform, and education,
frequently criticising government, organised religion, laws, social institutions, and creeping industrialisation.
But, as one wit proclaimed, “the main drawback of transcendentalism is its impracticality. not everyone can turn
their back on society like Thoreau did and go and live alone in a cabin somewhere. Most of us have no choice
but to remain in society and make our way in the world”.
In this course we look at transcendentalism in detail by considering the three main streams of thinking that
contributed to the growth of transcendentalism and reviewing some of the writings of Emerson and Thoreau.

For Neville, we study THE POWER OF AWARENESS, YOUR FAITH IS YOUR FORTUNE and AWAKENED
IMAGINATION.
Emmett Fox was a natural healer with his first reported healing of another person taking place when he was only
6 years of age. A charismatic DIVINE SCIENCE minister, Fox wrote many books including THE SERMON ON
THE MOUNT which sold over 12 million copies within two years of being published. We review this and several
other books including LIFE IS CONSCIOUSNESS, THE 10 COMMANDMENTS and FIND & USE YOUR INNER
POWER.
Joel Goldsmith can best be described as colourful, a loner, and an enigma. He's best known as an author,
teacher, healer and mystic. He was a Christian Science practitioner for 16 years and founded THE INFINITE
WAY, which was the title of his first book. Famously, he never prepared a talk. He said that each talk came "spontaneously as it was given from within".
Josephy Murphy was our first New Thought minister in London and gave regular lectures at the London Truth
Forum in Caxton Hall in Westminster. During WW2, when he served as a pharmacist in the U.S. army, Murphy
became interested in Asian religions and so went to India to learn about them in depth.
This is where he met Thomas Troward who became his mentor. From Troward he not only learned philosophy, theology, and law, but was also introduced to mysticism and the masonic order. Joel Goldsmith can best be described as colourful, a loner, and an enigma. He's best known as an author,
teacher, healer and mystic. He was a Christian Science practitioner for 16 years and founded THE INFINITE
WAY, which was the title of his first book. Famously, he never prepared a talk. He said that each talk came "spontaneously as it was given from within".
Josephy Murphy was our first New Thought minister in London and gave regular lectures at the London Truth
Forum in Caxton Hall in Westminster. During WW2, when he served as a pharmacist in the U.S. army, Murphy
became interested in Asian religions and so went to India to learn about them in depth.
This is where he met Thomas Troward who became his mentor. From Troward he not only learned philosophy, theology, and law, but was also introduced to mysticism and the masonic order.
